Located in the Mariposa County Public Library, the Giving Tree is a beautifully painted tree created by local artist Abby Miller. This special installation offers a meaningful way to honor loved ones while supporting the library and our community.
Individuals may dedicate a metal acorn or oak leaf plaque in recognition of someone special. Each plaque is permanently displayed on the Giving Tree, creating a lasting tribute that grows alongside our shared love of learning and connection.
Metal Acorn Plaque: $100
Metal Oak Leaf Plaque: $150
Business-level leaf dedications will be available soon.

About Dennis Baker & the Giving Tree
Dennis Baker, a former President of the Friends of the Library, was a dedicated leader, educator, and community advocate who created the Giving Tree fundraiser—a lasting mural in the library where donors are recognized with engraved plaques in support of the library’s programs and future.
Those who worked alongside him describe him as a positive, intelligent, and highly motivated individual who deeply believed in public service.
Before his time with the Friends, Dennis spent over 20 years with the California Youth Authority at Mt. Bullion, where he began as an educator and later became Superintendent. He was instrumental in improving programs and safety, advocating in Sacramento to establish educational opportunities and secure communication equipment for staff.
Dennis brought that same leadership and passion to the Friends of the Library, helping organize sales, motivate volunteers, and build a strong sense of community. With the support of volunteers—and alongside his wife Caroline, who also generously contributed her time—Dennis helped create meaningful initiatives that continue to benefit the library today.
His legacy continues to inspire our efforts and the ongoing Giving Tree fundraiser.
